#oneaday 58: Perfect day

27 Feb

Today has been one of those picture-postcard perfect Sundays. For a start, I awoke after a fabulous night out in Leeds with my sisters and cousins sans hangover. Then, when they left I fell back to sleep and awoke lazily and mooched around in my PJs, did some writing and drank lots of tea.

Then le chap and I ventured into Leeds to the Adelphi for a lush Sunday dinner, complete with pudding, coffee and the Sunday papers and lots of lazing around in the pub. Then we walked across Leeds to the West Yorkshire Playhouse to indulge in part of my Christmas present – aforementioned thoroughly wonderful chap had got me tickets to see the Punt and Dennis show. I didn’t know much about Punt but I love Hugh Dennis, and Outnumbered is one of my favourite programmes on TV at the moment. The show was great, really enjoyed it and now I’m at home tucked up in PJs with a hot water bottle ready to sleep like a baby.

Perfect day.

#oneaday 57: Digital Go Karting

27 Feb

On Friday, I went go-karting for the first time in my life with the boys from work. I work in a team of five boys and me, so chances of having our team night out at a spa or going vintage shopping wasn’t really on the cards. So go-karting was chosen. Plus, we got it cheap on Groupon and there was the promise of beer after the chequered flag was waved.

We arrived at Raceway Karting in the ever-glamourous Pontefract and got dressed up in jumpsuits (bang on trend) and helmets. Then we got in these really low-down little cars (it actually was like something off of Mariokart) and proceeded to drive around the track, very slowly, screaming like the girl that I am.

After a couple of laps I got into it and really started to enjoy it, managing to not crash or cause any real drama. Needless to say, I came last, but it’s the taking part that counts (obvz). It was brilliant fun and the beers afterwards were fun too. We’ve decided that for our next outing, we’ll go UV bowling. I didn’t know this existed and basically it sounds like disco bowling, with a mirrorball and music and dry ice and everything. I can’t wait.

#oneaday 56: (late) Amazing bookshops around the world

27 Feb

This post is for Friday. I’ve had an exceptionally busy week, being the social butterfly that I am. Although social seagull is probably a better description of me. I’m not that graceful.

Andrea writes The Art of Staying up all night, one of my all-time favourite blogs. She’s doing a series at the moment of posts about amazing bookshops around the world and she kindly included my write-up about The Rude Shipyard Beneath My Window. You can read this by clicking here.
