#oneaday 53: Aspirational house-hunting

22 Feb

We’ve lived in our flat very happily for around six months now and I have no intention of moving any time soon. It’s a gorgeous flat in a lovely area and is close to work and close enough to town. Plus the local pub is ace.

But that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy indulging in a bit of window shopping. For houses. I love Rightmove. I could spend hours on there, nosying at houses and dreaming of fancy ones that I could live in one day. Or even dreaming of non-fancy ones. One of my favourite things to do when I was younger (not sure if this sounds weird or not) was to imagine another street, a really normal one, and imagine that I lived there or imagine what the people were like who lived there. I’d create whole lives for these fictional families, and I still like to indulge myself now sometimes by having a sneaky little play at this game when I’m at a loose end.

Here’s today’s pick. Who do you think lives in a house like this?

A floppy haired farmer type boy with his best friend from Uni. He owns the house, and he has a considerable inheritance as his grandmother was a famous actress. His friend does the marketing for an up an coming digital “zine”. He doesn’t make much but they’ve been bes buds for years. This digital zine guy would like to live right in the city, perhaps London or Newcastle. The floppy haired farmer boy is happy with his greenery and they both enjoy living together. Maybe one day they will find girlfriends and move out, perhaps renting the property to a rich old lady who wants a garden. But for now, they really like the beams in this house.

I looooooooooooove this, Kat! Totes can imagine them sitting in the garden in the sunshine, drinking Henney’s cider with slices of lemon, reading Kurt Vonnegut and sitting barefoot in the grass. Maybe one of their friends brings over some cake that she baked and they all laze in the late afternoon sunshine together before padding back into the house as it gets just nippy enough to put a jumper and a film on.

      Lush.
